How to make a 3D Paper Brooch - Paper Jewelry Craft Tutorial

Paper Brooch - 3D Pop Up Circle

This brooch is an eco-friendly paper jewelry craft. The pictured brooch is made from a JoAnn's flyer, magazine images, hardcover book page and a cereal box.

Brooches are little pieces of wearable art. They can be used to adorn clothing, purses, hats or any surface you can attach a pin to.

Materials

MATERIALS:
Paper scraps
Page from a hard cover book or Card stock (for reinforcing magazine
                                                                             images).
Cereal box or similar weight cardboard
Circle punch - I used 1 5/8"
Mod Podge
Varnish
Acrylic Paint
Strong Glue for pinback - I used Glossy Accents by Ranger
Paint brush
Scissors
Sewing machine
Optional - bone folder

Step One:
Prepare a work surface and gather your supplies. I use old magazine pages for palettes and messy gluing and painting.

Step Two:
Create a cardboard template you can lay over images to find designs that fit inside your paper punch.

Step Three:
Choose four images and glue them to your supporting paper using Mod Podge. It works best to apply glue to an area on your heavier paper and also on the back of your magazine print. Smooth out the air bubbles with your fingers. I do one image at a time. Magazine pages are glossy and not easy to adhere. Let Dry.

Step Four:
Varnish your designs and let dry. Punch a circle shape out of the cereal box and paint it with an acrylic paint color of your choice. Let Dry.

Step Five:
Punch out the circle shapes.

Step Six:
Varnish backside (heavier paper) of the circles and let them dry. Don't be concerned if the paper curls, you can flex it flat again once it has dried.

Step Seven:
Stack your circles in an eye pleasing manner. Glue the bottom circle to the cereal box base with Mod Podge or Elmer's white glue. Let Dry.

Step Eight:
Hold the other three circles on top of the base and sew down the center. You can mark your center by folding the top circle in half and creasing it with a bone folder.

Step Nine:
Fold your circle edges toward the center of the brooch to give it the 3D fanned appearance.

Step Ten:
Use a strong glue to attach your pinback. I used a 1 1/4" pinback and Glossy Accents glue. Let Dry.

You are finished! You will want to make a dozen of these brooches once you discover how quick and easy they are to make.

Red Heart Boutique Ribbons Yarn Scarf

Scarf - almost done!

Scarf - finished!!!
I knit this scarf with a novelty yarn from Red Heart. It is called Boutique Ribbons and I used the color "Rosebud". It comes in seven different colors. I used the pattern and instructions on the inside of the label but there are more ways to make a scarf listed at Red Heart. Follow the link and see the other colors listed as well.

The yarn is available at AC Moore stores. Buy some and get started on an easy scarf for yourself or it would make a great gift.
